Yesterday, February 1 2012 drillers struck water at 300 ft – and oh did they strike water! This region is draught stricken and water is very scarce. Currently, everything is extremely dry. Once you drill more than 100 feet it is all rock, but it is in the rock where the purist water is found. It is not uncommon to have to drill 400-500+ feet to find water. So, it was pure joy to see water burst forth at 300 feet.

Everyone, including the drilling team, was amazed to see the amount of water pressure coming from the well. This is a really good sign that this water source is plentiful. The driller estimates plentiful water for at least 15 years.

Today, village leaders, including non-believers from 8 adjacent villages were at the well to see this amazing and wonderful provision of water. They pleaded with the church to not use a hand pump on the well but rather to install an electric pump. A hand pump would allow 400 people per day to benefit from the well. An electric pump, holding tank, and 5 water taps would allow 4,000 people per day to benefit from the well. An electric pump would also allow the 10 adjacent villages to pipe the water up to 8 kilometers to their villages. This would cost $650 per connection instead of the typical $1,500 plus per individual bore well in each of these villages. This could impact tens of thousands of people.

One incredibly beautiful thing is that this well is located at the church and will be leveraged by these followers of Christ for the advancement of the Gospel. In less than 24 hours it already has the attention and desire of the non believers. Every drop of water is an opportunity to proclaim AND demonstrate the living water of Jesus Christ.

So the question before the church around the world (you and me) is how many drops of water do we want out of this well? Do we want this well to impact 400 people or 4,000+ people per day?

The GHI Village Development Project has paid for this bore well – the drilling and the hand pump. To God be all the glory! The submersible electric pump, 5,000 liter holding tank, and 5 water taps will cost an additional $2,400. The well must be covered within 48 hours which means that we now have less than 24 hours to decide if the well gets a hand pump or the submersible electric motor, etc.
